We would like to take a moment to thank Congresswoman Gillibrand for her interest and assistance to our Village & Town of Corinth. We have been concerned that in the event of the failure of the Conklinville Dam that Corinth would be impacted very quickly. Corinth, Hadley, and Lake Luzerne were all shown to be impacted on the inundation maps in a short time frame in the event of a dam failure, but Corinth was not being included in the Emergency Action Plan’s Early Warning System.

We have worried about the safety of or residents. Our Disaster Committee looked at the cost to prepare our own system. Even with grant assistance, there would have been a large expense to the taxpayer. We brought our request to be included in the Emergency Action Plan for the Great Sacandaga Lake to the Congresswoman’s attention. After her Congressional Inquiry was sent, we quickly heard from her staff that the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has now advised the Chief Engineer in the project that Corinth had to be included with Hadley and Lake Luzerne on all facets of the system. The Congresswoman’s efforts have saved local taxpayers this expense. In the event of an emergency which we hope never comes, she has helped to protect life and property as well. On behalf of the Village and Town of Corinth, thank you Congresswoman Gillibrand.

Sincerely,

Supervisor Richard Lucia and Mayor Brad Winslow.
