Village Board Minutes

April 23, 2025 (67)

A public hearing and a special meeting of the Village Board were held April 23, 2025 at 5:00 PM in the Firehouse, 16 Saratoga Ave.

Mayor Miller called the meeting to order & led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Roll Call:  Trustee Bedell, Trustee Clark, Trustee Kirchhoff & Trustee Stollery were present. 

A public hearing as published in The Post Star on April 12, 2025 was held at 5:00 PM regarding the purpose of considering the approval of Local Law 3 of 2025 which overrides the limit on real property taxes that may be levied by the Village of Corinth to allow the Village to adopt a budget for the 2025/2026 fiscal year that requires a  real property tax levy in excess of the tax levy limit as defined by General Municipal Law Section 3-c.

PUBLIC COMMENTS, QUESTIONS & CONCERNS –Jim Murray, Center St, stated that he does not agree with having to consider using the tax cap override if needed. He believes that overrides are used too often and that looking at fund balance for a solution be considered. The Board thanked Jim for his input.

With no further public comments Mayor Miller closed the public hearing at 5:08 PM.

A special meetingwas held at 5:08 PM in the Firehouse, 16 Saratoga Avenue.

NEW BUSINESS

Trustee Stollery opened the special meeting by stating to that there was a good chance that the Village would not have to utilize the tax cap override.

Attorney Buettner added that adopting Local Law 3 - 2025 would give the Board the authority to override only if needed and that the Village was not acting outside of its budget, but rather the NYS budget guidelines.

Resolution #79 approved adoption of Local Law 3 –2025, override of property tax cap.     

The Board discussed approving the Fiscal Year 2025/2026 budget. The Mayor stated that the addition of funds from the Fire Protection contract with Town of Corinth be considered within the upcoming budget.

Resolution #80 approved, adoption of the 2025/2026 Fiscal Year Budget.           

PUBLIC COMMENTS, QUESTIONS & CONCERNS – Jim Murray, Center St, referenced recent acts of vandalism within the Village. Jim believes that the Village should consider reestablishing a local police force to prevent further incidents from occurring.

The Mayor stated that he has been in contact with the Saratoga County Sheriff regarding the recent incidents and that the Village would be enforcing a curfew.

BOARD COMMENTS, QUESTIONS & CONCERNS – none.

ADJOURNMENT

Motion by Trustee Bedell, seconded by Trustee Stollery, that Board adjourn, 5:23 PM.
