Village Board minutes

July 22, 2024 (14)

A special meeting of the Village Board was held July 22, 2024 at 6:30 PM in the Firehouse, 16 Saratoga Ave.

Mayor Miller called the meeting to order &led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Roll Call:  Trustee Bedell, Trustee Kirchhoff & Trustee Stollery were present.  Trustee Clark was excused.

NEW BUSINESS

Resolution #20 approved, hiring of Matthew Sprague as Lifeguard contingent upon receipt of Waterfront Certification effective the day of certification at $20 per hour.

Mayor Miller provided background information on NY Forward/DRI grant funding and potential eligible projects supporting Village business and local recreational areas.

Trustee Stollery emphasized the revitalization of vacant Main Street parcels with the addition of a pavilion for public use, enhanced lighting in the northern portion of the Village, purchasing vacant buildings in the downtown area, addition of dock at waterfront to encourage local boat cruise business to take residence within Village, 98 Main Street additions, Saratoga Corinth & Hudson Railway train station improvements, and distributing grant monies to local downtown business owners.

PUBLIC COMMENTS, QUESTIONS & CONCERNS

Hal Raven, Saratoga Corinth & Hudson Railway owner expressed interest in being able to expand his

Adirondack Cruise and Charter Company to the downtown Village waterfront area with the possibility for a ticket kiosk servicing both of his businesses. Mr. Raven discussed the use of the former TD Bank building as a welcome center for the Village which would highlight local offerings. An emphasis on bringing tourism and to the downtown area to promote existing and future business was discussed in addition to bringing awareness to both Pagenstecher Park and The Hudson River Mill Museum. The potential for public transportation though the railway and CDTA was mentioned to promote local accessibility. Mr. Raven discussed the purchase of a portion of IP railroad tracks within the Village to expand his railway. Mr. Raven would like to ask the Village Board for a letter of support in purchasing.

Michael McKelligott, Oak Streetsupported the expansion of the Saratoga Corinth & Hudson Railway to create interest and business within the Village.

Mayor Miller expressed the need for recreational area improvements within the Village such as a splash pad feature at Corinth Beach, paving within Pagenstecher Park, and improvements to the waterfront area.

Motion by Trustee Bedell, seconded by Trustee Stollery, that the Board adjourn, 7:58 PM.
